For Crafting the Victory

Competing over a tenth of a second in the world of sports.
An end mill story about supporting break records.

To support “Made in Japan” at the absolute limits of racing.

One second in 100 years. What does this number mean? The answer is world record in the men’s 100-meter dash was shortened by a second in a hundred years. The first world record acknowledged by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) was in 1912—a time of 10.6 seconds set by American Donald Lippincott. Successive competitors improved on that time, culminating in the record-breaking 9.58 seconds set by Jamaica’s Usain Bolt in 2009—an achievement still fresh in our memories. To eke out another tenth of a second, to grasp a victory yet unseen. Athletes are testing their limits in all sorts of competitions. Supporting those challenges is another role we play at NS TOOL.
One example is the world’s premier cycle race, the Tour de France. Mountain paths and country roads form the stage for this grueling 3,500km race. Every single part of the racer’s road bike is expected to perform at extreme limits. The gears that transform pedal power into speed are fulcrums deciding the balance between victory and defeat. Competitors and mechanics worldwide place their trust in gears Made in Japan. NS TOOL’s end mills contribute to the evolution of those gears. In the past, the rear wheel gear, or ‘sprocket,’ was five-speed as standard. Eleven-speed is typical today. Allowing such precise speed adjustments while boosting lightness and strength requires a sprocket with the excess shaved off. To achieve a sprocket with the maximum possible thinness, a sprocket that resists abrasion, with teeth that never jump, the molds to produce it must meet extremely strict requirements for machining precision. These requirements are achievable by using NS TOOL’s end mills.

Drawing out the potential that athletes hold.

With the athletic festival of the century just a few years away, sports fever continues to grip Japan. NS TOOL’s end mills are helping to improve the performance of athletes not just in cycle racing, but in various other professional sports, as well. Club heads that translate golfers’ habits and individuality into better scores. Soccer cleats that push speed up to new levels on attack and defense. Racecar parts for top speed performance and life-saving devices to protect drivers…. Plays that win the hearts of fans and new records etched into sports history are achieved through a combination of physical abilities and sports gear to bring out the potential of those abilities to maximum levels. NS TOOL continues its unending research on end mills to respond to the earnest desires of sports lovers and athletes.
